Amboy Territorial Days Park was established over 50 years ago to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the first Amboy Post Office (established in 1886).
The Park is home to Amboy Territorial Days Celebration which is held every year over the 2nd weekend in July, and hosted by The Amboy Territorial Days Association (a nonprofit organization).
Other Park events have included an Annual Easter Egg Hunt, Veteran’s celebrations, Christmas Lights Festival, The Amboy Riding Club Saddle Weekend, The Country Cruise-In, The Festival of Trees, and more.
The beautiful grounds, play areas and well-maintained restrooms are open to the public daily. A large pavilion, kitchen facilities, two buildings and stages are available to be reserved by local groups and organizations. Local non-profit community organizations (Veteran’s organizations, etc.) may use the buildings at no cost.
In 1960 Margaret Smith, Post Master of the local Post Office, organized a celebration for the Amboy Post Office's 75th Anniversary in 1961 (the Post Office was here before Washington became a State). That first celebration was in Lucky Waldo's field (which now belongs to the school district), across from the Amboy School. There were Princesses, a Sawing competition, and an organized dance held at the Grange.
Many people in the local community were involved and enjoyed the celebration. As a result, a standing committee was formed and they decided to repeated the celebration as an Annual event. Coordinating with other local community events, everyone came to a consensus on when to hold these local events so that they did not conflict.
That Annual Celebration is now known as the "Territorial Days Celebration", hosted by a nonprofit organization — the Amboy Territorial Days Association, with a duty to celebrate the founding of Amboy and its history, as well as to maintain the community park.
ALL funds earned from events and park use fees, after expenses, are used to improve the Park and assist our local community.
Please consider volunteering some of your time to support Amboy Territorial Days Park! It’s a great way to support your community, meet your neighbors and have some fun! Volunteers are always needed.
Amboy Territorial Park is solely owned and operated by the non-profit, all-volunteer Amboy Territorial Park Association. The Association meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month at 7:00pm in building #2 at the park. The public is welcome to attend these meetings and to join the Amboy Territorial Park Association.
